Indian 'Iron Lady' to stop 16 yrs of fasting, today 9 August 2016

The Indian 'Iron Lady' Irom Chanu Sharmila  44-years old expected to eat the 

first meal today 9 August 

2016 after 16years

 of 

hunger strike which she started in November 2000 after

 Malon massacre which caused 10 people dead in small village 

of Imphal. 

 The Iron Lady journey 

which took her from prison to politics

 made her

 compared to world

 iconic figures like

 Nelson Mandela and Aung San Suu Kyi.

 Iroms ends of hunger strike coincides with 70th anniversary of the 

India's struggle for freedom 

against British colon. Irom still in custody where she charged 

with suicide attempt. 

Irom announced at her last hearing

 that her struggle against the armed forces special

 powers was not working

 so it was time to 

try another way-out.
